Cool Beans Cafe

Hello fellow coffee addicts,

Let's take a minute to rejoice that it is officially Pumpkin Spice Latte season. Personally, I have shifted over to the Cold Brew life because they have more caffeine, so Pumpkin Cold Brews are my current favorite. My mom likes to record episodes of New Day Cleveland and told me about a coffee shop in Medina, Ohio. When my mom had called me about this coffee shop, I originally wasn't interested thinking it would be your average coffee shop. Then she said, "They have flights of coffee." Wait, what?! I'm sure everyone has had beer and wine flights. It's a fun way to try different flavors. I have never had a flight of coffee. You have now piqued my interest.

The cafe itself is on the corner of a busy street across from a little park square in the middle of downtown Medina. The park square has festivals and live music throughout the year. All of the buildings in the downtown area are old and therefore have beautiful detail and architecture. Some of the buildings were old banks that still have vaults inside. The outside of the cafe isn't obvious. Just a plain sign in front of the building. The inside is very cute and cozy. They have high-top tables, low tables, and booths. There is an area with old board games to play. While we didn't play any board games this time around, I am sucker for board games and that had me nostalgic. They have a large party space in the middle of the building that can be reserved for birthday parties, cooking classes, and events. Their menu is surprisingly huge for a coffee shop. It has a full food menu, bakery items, and a long list of coffee and tea options.

The flights are not officially listed on the main menu. It seems like you have to be "in the know" secret menu kinda thing. We asked about them and they brought a list out from behind the counter. Your options are a "hot flight" or an "iced flight" and the flavors you can choose from change monthly. You get to pick four flavors and the flights are about $10 each. We ordered one of each, and found out why they possibly don't advertise having the flights-it took about 15 minutes to be made. That didn't bother us, but then we kinda felt bad for the guy having to make them. It seems like they take a lot of time and detail.

Our iced flight

They came out in these adorable little mason jars and they wrote the flavors on the board in chalk. Our iced flight included a Cherry Pie Frappe, Heath Bar, Affogato, and Almond Joy. Unfortunately, I have a tree nut allergy and couldn't have the frappe (coconut) or the Almond Joy (almond syrup). My mom and grandma were my fellow taste testers. They said the Cherry Pie Frappe was very light and refreshing. The Almond Joy had a really nice light almond flavor. The Affogato was a bit strong for my mom and grandma. It was espresso with a little bit of cream. I'm the only espresso drinker in the group. Heath Bar was one of our top 3. It was along the lines of an iced latte, but even creamier with whipped cream and Heath Bar pieces on top. Our hot flight consisted of Lucky Charms, Tiramisu, Camp Fire, and a Pumpkin Chai Latte. Lucky Charms didn't taste like the cereal. It was basically a latte with marshmallow syrup. Just as creamy as the Heath Bar, though. Tiramisu and Camp Fire didn't have any cream in them. They were coffee with flavored syrups. Grandma wasn't a huge fan of those ones. Me, being a S'mores flavored and Tiramisu anything fanatic, really enjoyed them. The real star of the show was the Pumpkin Chai Latte. I do not like Chai tea. I tried a Gingerbread Chai Latte once, and it was awful so I've stayed away. However, this Pumpkin Chai Latte changed my mind. It was so pumpkiny (I'm making that a word), creamy, and spiced that I was head over heels. I even thought about making my blood pressure hate me and ordering a medium to-go.

Our hot flight

I would love to go back sometime to try other flight flavors (rumor has it they will be having a Hocus Pocus themed flight in October), and some of the food. My only disappointment was the number of flavors that included tree nut syrups or coconut/almond milk that I couldn't have so it made it very limited. I would suggest bringing people along to try the flights with. It's fun to try the different flavors, but it can get really sweet and even with the mini mason jars it's quite a bit of coffee/espresso for a single person. I enjoyed the old building with the massively tall ceilings and the history feel to it. Be sure to check out their website and their Facebook page has the updated flight flavors and other fun things they have going on. Let me know if you've been here and what your favorite flavors are!

Exploring Historic Downtown Ashland, Ohio

Hello!     I recently was feeling nostalgic and wanted to visit my old college town to see how it has changed for better or worse. I am an alum of Ashland University and I periodically miss those days, though they say you can never go back. If only. One of the things I loved about attending school there was being out in the quiet country. There was no hustle and bustle or noise of city life (or a more populated suburb). I miss the sense of peace it brought me. However, in recent years, they have built it up near the highway. More chain restaurants, apartments, and large corporations. I'm happy the college students have more options because some were really needed, but it definitely has made it noisier and ruined some of the country feel. I'm happy that the historic downtown closer to the university is being preserved with it's stunning architectural buildings and new small businesses. I wanted to take a look and see what downtown Ashland has to offer, with the help of anoth

Momocho/El Carnicero

Happy 2022!  This is technically December's post. We will have two posts this month. The end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 has not exactly been ideal.  We had a few family members get COVID around Christmas. A few more got it after the New Year. I got sick after the New Year (not COVID), and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. Everyone is doing okay, and for that I am so thankful. Without further ado, let's check out another Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives location.  My love language is tacos and whiskey so when Guy Fieri visited a Mod-Mex place in the Cleveland area, I was ready. The original location is Momocho in Tremont. They have since opened a second location, El Carnicero in Lakewood. I have now been to both locations, so I'll do a little comparing. I must emphasize that these are not traditional Mexican dishes, Chef Eric Williams does a modern twist on the classics. When you think you know what you're getting, you're going to be pleasantly

Cedar Point's Tricks and Treats Fall Fest

Surprise!      This month is a two-part adventure. While we were enjoying our wonderful Halloweekend at Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers, I had to participate in the Tricks and Treats Fall Fest. This event started in 2020 and they brought it back this year. There is a menu of food and drinks called the Delicious Fall Tastes (found here ) that show all of the options you can get. You can buy a lanyard that features a card at any participating food location for 6 tastes at $54.99 or 9 tastes at $79.99. *These are in-park prices. If you buy online, you save $5* If you don't want the tasting card, each food item was $9.99. We had a group of 3 with 2 other people who would be joining us the next day, so we went with the 9 tastes card. I'm a big fan of go big or go home.      One of the things I was most excited to try was the O-H-I-O Hand Pie. The pie crust had good flavor and we LOVED the vanilla glaze. We were scraping it off the plate. However, we were disappointed in the lack of
