Brunch at Kitchen Social

Welcome back for post #2 this month!

I will be transparent and say that this was not my intention for the second post this month; I really wanted to do something different. However, I opted to get my COVID booster and ended up getting all those fun side effects like I had after the 2nd dose. After the symptoms subsided and my appetite came back, I did not want to cook. I also wasn't feeling myself quite yet and wasn't in the mood for our usual brunch go-tos, so I wanted takeout from a new place we hadn't tried yet.

Enter: Kitchen Social. I have passed this restaurant many times and it is always busy. I also am aware of the reputation of their food being really, really good. Their brunch options were all appealing to me (you can find the menu here) and it was difficult to narrow it down. The caveat is that you have to call to place a takeout order for curbside pick-up. You cannot order and pay online. I am still very undecided on how I feel about that. I like my online ordering for days that I don't want human interaction. They answered quickly when we called and told us our order would be ready in about 25 minutes, along with asking what type of vehicle we were driving for when we arrived.

Upon our arrival, we hadn't been in the designated takeout parking spot for a full minute when they showed up at our door with our food. Payment option was cash or credit. The entire interaction was 3 minutes tops. My mom loved the quick service and how easy it was, so she really wanted that emphasized. No calling or texting required to say that we had arrived. She also likes a cash option and many places don't allow that with online ordering so believe me when I say she was very pleased. What I was pleased about was the cost. Our usual go-to brunch locations cost us an average of $40-$50 for two people. This brunch with 3 entrees that we wanted to try was a grand total of $29 without tip. I don't know about the rest of you, but the price increases at the grocery store are starting to kill my budget so to get takeout for that price made me so happy.

The first entree we tried was the Egg Sandwich. It comes with greens and a house-made vinaigrette dressing. I am not one to hate on greens for breakfast, so I wasn't phased. The ciabatta bread was nice and soft. There was a thin layer of bacon above and below the egg. The arugula wasn't overpowering. The whole grain mustard aioli makes that entire sandwich. It packed a flavor punch and is probably the best aioli I've ever had. I loved how compact the sandwich was. It wasn't falling apart or messy to eat. I would definitely order that again.

The next entree is one that I judge brunch places based on because it is one of my favorite things to order: Biscuits and Gravy. Their signature biscuits are cheddar and scallion. There are 3 palm-sized triangular biscuits that come in an order. The texture was perfect-crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sunny-side up eggs were basic, nothing special. We just cut them into pieces to put on top of the biscuits. Sausage gravy is one of the reasons I hesitate to order this dish at a place I've never been to before, because there are plenty of bland, too runny, too thick, or not-enough-sausage gravys out there. This one was...wow, SO GOOD. The consistency was perfect. The sausage to gravy ratio was spot on. This is easily the second best sausage gravy and biscuit dish I've had (Lucky's Cafe being the first). We agreed this was our favorite of the three entrees and we'd 100% go back for that.

Lastly, we tried another one of my favorite brunch dishes-Chicken and Waffles. This is another one that is easy to be too greasy and lack flavor. You get 3 mini-triangular waffles with bacon, cheddar, and scallions. It also came with 2 fried chicken tenders and syrup. I liked the extra savory with the cheddar and scallions on the waffles, but (don't judge me) I didn't think the bacon was necessary. The chicken tenders were so crispy and had such a great sweet flavor and a slight spicy-ness to them that the bacon was just an accessory. Unfortunately, our syrup leaked out of the little container they gave us so we had to use our own at home. We were a bit bummed because we think they make that syrup a little extra special so we missed out on that. I would like to give this one a try again with their syrup, but I liked the other two entrees so much that I think I'd have to specifically be in the mood for this one. (Plus, there's a place that has my favorite chicken and waffles as a sandwich that I will post about someday.😉)

As you may have noticed, I don't have any pictures of the restaurant itself, and for that I apologize. The curbside pick-up was on the side of the building that didn't have the Kitchen Social sign. I've also found that I prefer to use my own photos in my posts instead of citing someone else's. We loved this brunch and will definitely add this to our list of go-tos because of the price, service, and quality.  I'm still thinking about the biscuits and gravy so that may become a problem. Many people have told me that this is a great restaurant and I can only imagine how awesome dinner is if this is just the brunch option. Let me know if you've been here and what you like to order!

Momocho/El Carnicero

Happy 2022!  This is technically December's post. We will have two posts this month. The end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 has not exactly been ideal.  We had a few family members get COVID around Christmas. A few more got it after the New Year. I got sick after the New Year (not COVID), and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. Everyone is doing okay, and for that I am so thankful. Without further ado, let's check out another Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives location.  My love language is tacos and whiskey so when Guy Fieri visited a Mod-Mex place in the Cleveland area, I was ready. The original location is Momocho in Tremont. They have since opened a second location, El Carnicero in Lakewood. I have now been to both locations, so I'll do a little comparing. I must emphasize that these are not traditional Mexican dishes, Chef Eric Williams does a modern twist on the classics. When you think you know what you're getting, you're going to be pleasantly

Cedar Point's Tricks and Treats Fall Fest

Surprise!      This month is a two-part adventure. While we were enjoying our wonderful Halloweekend at Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers, I had to participate in the Tricks and Treats Fall Fest. This event started in 2020 and they brought it back this year. There is a menu of food and drinks called the Delicious Fall Tastes (found here ) that show all of the options you can get. You can buy a lanyard that features a card at any participating food location for 6 tastes at $54.99 or 9 tastes at $79.99. *These are in-park prices. If you buy online, you save $5* If you don't want the tasting card, each food item was $9.99. We had a group of 3 with 2 other people who would be joining us the next day, so we went with the 9 tastes card. I'm a big fan of go big or go home.      One of the things I was most excited to try was the O-H-I-O Hand Pie. The pie crust had good flavor and we LOVED the vanilla glaze. We were scraping it off the plate. However, we were disappointed in the lack of

Thurman Cafe

Hello Friends,      I am an unashamed cuisine enthusiast, or "Foodie," so many of my adventures I post will involve food. I came across Thurman Cafe while watching Man Vs. Food (when Adam Richmond was hosting). I have actually been here quite a few times over the years before and after moving to the Columbus, Ohio area. The picture below is from the first time I went there in 2014, and the sign is no longer there. It is a tiny place in German Village outside of downtown Columbus know as having the "tastiest burgers in Columbus."      It definitely a dive bar with dark lighting (hence why the pictures aren't clear), minimal seating, and signed dollar bills all over the walls and booth benches. I haven't asked the story behind why people sign the dollar bills and they get taped up everywhere, but it's their "thing" to say they've been there and tried it. When I say tiny, I mean TINY. The dining area consists of a bar, some high tables
