Little Birdie Wine Nest

Hello Everyone,

My mom and grandma are fans of New Day Cleveland and wanted to take me to Little Birdie Wine Nest after seeing them featured on the show. They were voted Best Wine Shop in Parma and Cleveland. Their shop has coffee and wine flights, boards, pizzas, and desserts along with over 1,000 wines from all over the world. They also host a variety of events such as trivia, crafts, and wine pairings. Those book up fast so if you're interested, you may want to follow them on social media or get their newsletter.I had originally posted a story to social media with a few fun photos while we were there, and got a lot of interest and questions from people. It motivated me to go back and make a post about them.

The shop is located on a small strip mall off Broadview Rd. It has a small boutique feel to it with bakery and gifts in the front, 10 booths and tables in the middle, and an art/event section in the back. If you plan on dining in, head to the register to grab a menu and be seated. You do need to walk back up to the register to order your food and drinks once you know what you want. Water is self-serve at the front of the dining section. They will bring your food and drinks to your table.

Their cold brew flights went viral, so we definitely wanted to try one of those. As someone with a tree nut allergy, it was a little complicated. The majority of the grazing boards, pizzas, and desserts include nuts. There was a lot I couldn't have. *If you have a nut allergy, let the staff know when ordering so they can accommodate. Some of the coffee drinks have nuts sprinkled on top that aren't listed on the descriptions.* When our food came out, a staff member came over to let me know what items on the grazing board had nuts which I really appreciated.

The wine selections, cold brew flights and some other coffee drinks are seasonal. I like that they do some different types of drinks from other coffee shops. I really enjoyed the Dirty Pumpkin Chai. It had a subtle chai flavor and neither the chai nor pumpkin overpowered the other. It was a nice balance and was really creamy. I anticipated the Bourbon Caramel was going to be overly sweet, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't. You can taste the caramel and a hint of coffee, so it's great for anyone who isn't a huge fan of the taste of coffee. A surprise was the Sweet Potato Pie. It had ube syrup which gave it a different type of flavor, but it was still really good. It smells like a sweet potato candle, but I swear it didn't taste like one! I kept going back to it because it was so different and interesting.

One of the boards we tried was the Brunch Board. My personal favorite item on the board was the egg & cheese danish. The staff said it is delivered by a bread bakery down the street daily. It was flakey and had a touch of salt with an egg and cheese baked in. I loved it so much I ordered another one individually. The mini pancake skewers are genius and my mom was asking them how they make it as an option for the holidays. (They said they do little dollops of pancake batter on a baking sheet and bake them until golden.) The pomegranate syrup was sweet and delicious. The cinnamon roll (according to my mom because there were nuts in it) had a sugar crunch outside. She liked that it didn't have cream cheese frosting and had the perfect amount of cinnamon nut filling.

We also tried the Lil' Piggy Flatbread and a Cheese & Charcuterie board. As for the flatbread, I'm on the hot honey wagon so usually once I see anything with hot honey, I want to order it. However, you got no heat from it. It had a good salty/sweet balance with all the toppings. I wished it was bigger for the price, though. I liked the variety of cheeses on the charcuterie board. I really enjoyed the little chocolate covered cherries on the board as well (which they also sell in store). It was a filling board for 2 people.

I noticed a lot of people in the reviews were conflicted on the price of the boards. The Brunch Board was $34 alone. The boards are meant to serve 2-4 people, so it makes sense when you split it by person vs the average restaurant. Are there items you can make at home? Yes, but not everyone wants to take the time to do it. There are ways you can navigate the menu and order a few items that won't rack up the cost, or take advantage of their happy hour.

We went for brunch on a Wednesday afternoon, and dinner on a Thursday evening when there were no events happening. Wednesday was a little busier, but the staff was very kind and attentive. On Thursday, there were only a few other groups and some parts of the night, we had the whole place to ourselves. We loved the evening ambiance of the soft lights and music. It was very relaxing.

I admit that I am not a wine shop kind of girl. I prefer going to wineries that make their own wine and doing tastings there, but Little Birdie Wine Nest has its own charm that won me over. The staff were so kind and accommodating when I let them know I had a nut allergy. The continued to check on us and stopped and chatted if they could. I do wish there were more nut-free options or swaps on the boards/desserts for allergies. While it can be pricey, it's a nice treat for something fun and different than a traditional restaurant. Their happy hour has some nice options of boards and flights. The evening ambiance was so relaxing and quiet, but if you prefer being around more people, brunch has more hustle and bustle. I'd love to come do one of their pairing or craft events sometime with family or friends.

Have you been to Little Birdie's? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Exploring Historic Downtown Ashland, Ohio

Hello!     I recently was feeling nostalgic and wanted to visit my old college town to see how it has changed for better or worse. I am an alum of Ashland University and I periodically miss those days, though they say you can never go back. If only. One of the things I loved about attending school there was being out in the quiet country. There was no hustle and bustle or noise of city life (or a more populated suburb). I miss the sense of peace it brought me. However, in recent years, they have built it up near the highway. More chain restaurants, apartments, and large corporations. I'm happy the college students have more options because some were really needed, but it definitely has made it noisier and ruined some of the country feel. I'm happy that the historic downtown closer to the university is being preserved with it's stunning architectural buildings and new small businesses. I wanted to take a look and see what downtown Ashland has to offer, with the help of ano...

Cedar Point's Boardwalk Nights

Step Right Up!     Cedar Point's Boardwalk Nights is a carnival-esque evening event featuring games, live entertainment, and themed food and drinks. There's also themed merchandise in the gift shops.  It occurs every night (except Tuesdays) July 19th-August 18th from 7pm-10pm. I  love that they're fully embracing the Boardwalk theme, as it's now one of my favorite areas to be in the park. When we attended Winter Chill Out earlier this year, it was on a sneak peek events poster in the costume building. While they didn't delve into the details, I'm glad they didn't spoil the surprises because this event is a lot more fun that I had anticipated.  $39.99     Boardwalk Nights starts off with a cavalcade at 7pm along the Boardwalk (between Windseeker and Gatekeeper). There were 3 floats, dancers, and kites. However, all 3 floats don't make it down the entire boardwalk. They start over near Gatekeeper/MaXair and stop in designated spots. One float stops...

Oliver Winery

Happy Summer!     Now that it is officially patio season, I have been wanting to review one of my favorite wineries since I started this blog 5 years ago-Oliver Winery. It is nestled in Bloomington, Indiana and is one of the largest wineries in the U.S. I have been coming here since I was a kid when my uncle worked there part-time while attending Indiana University. I remember him taking us on tours around the winery when we visited and I loved getting those rock candy suckers (which they no longer sell 😞). I vaguely remember meeting the original founder, Bill Oliver, a few times when I was younger.  Ownership changed a few years back, though Bill is still a board member. One of things he was passionate about was ballooning, and he got my uncle into it. The logo has been changed to a hot air balloon, which I love because it plays into the story so well.      The property is absolutely stunning with a garden out front, a waterfall, a large deck and pa...
